A-CHAT REFLECTION

Presented here is my A-chat Reflection for my UNIV 290 class where I talk about how things have progressed from earlier in the semester.

A-Chat Reflection: Volunteer

On this round of A-chats I wanted to know what I could do to be better for next semester. The process was a lot easier than last time because I knew how I needed to schedule things. I learned that most of my residents understand that I’m busy and don’t hold it against me. I asked what I can improve on and they said that they loved me as I was. Others did say that they wanted more events and for me to be around more. Regardless, I am happy that my residents like me and that we have a good relationship. Next semester I will defiantly will be more proactive with planning events.

I didn’t notice much of a difference in there responses even though I asked different questions. Most of them did not feel that their morals or values had changed. They are also still struggling with classes and some of them with home sickness. I do believe that they are more secure now in their grades because I have heard less about the tutors.  I have tried my best to help in those areas when I can but I think that it is something they have to put work into themselves. I plan on having a group study session for them when finals come around to help boost their spirits.

Since the first A-chats I have tried to come into their rooms more often and talk. I have also opened about my personal life and my experiences. I think this has allowed me to feel closer to them and made them more likely to be more open with me. I have also become more of a voice for them when they have complaints or problems. To finish off this semester I think I am going to throw a going away party for my residents that are leaving. I want them to feel like a family before we leave for the break and end on a positive note.
